Waste Management
Does Berkeley Friends Meeting, in our Meetinghouse:
Check for water leaks, then get them fixed? Yes, found a leak, trying to fix it
Compost? Yes
Reduce, reuse, and recycle? Yes
Use low flow showerhead? Not yet— still to be done
Energy
Does Berkeley Friends Meeting, in our Meetinghouse:
Have energy efficient appliances & electronics? Yes
Get clean energy through an energy provider? Yes
Have solar panels? Yes
Have all LED bulbs? Not yet, but mostly
Have more installed insulation in the building? Yes, over Residents' apartment
Have passive heating and lighting? We have some passive lighting in the Community Room
Have an updated heating and cooling system? Yes, we have an on demand water heater but had to install a gas water heater
Use a smart thermostat? Yes
Plantings
Does Berkeley Friends Meeting, in our Meetinghouse:
Have carbon sinks like trees? Yes, but want to add more trees
Have native plants and/or low water usage plants in the garden? We have some, but could add more
Other Items?
We suggest other religious institutions utilize something similar to examine their own carbon footprint.
